LIFE

  • Father : Undisclosed; Mother: Juana Suico Osmena
  • Juana gave birth to Sergio when she was fourteen years old which made her son an illegitimate child.
  • who his grandfather died (SEVERINO OSMENA), he left his properties and estates to his first wife - Paula Osmena was his second wife.
  • Paula was left with a house and lot in the City's Center.

EDUCATION
  • Finished primary education at the private school iv cebu.
  • he was sent to Seminario - Colegio de San Carlos (Cebu) - high school.
  • Persued his studies at the Colegio de san Juan de Letran.
  • He was again influenced by Dona Paula to enter the UST College of law.
  • His education was interrupted during Philippine Revolution.
  • Attended english classes with Ms. Josephine Bracken who married a cebu business man.
  • Finished his legal studies and immediately took up and pass the bar examination in 1903.

POLITICAL CAREER
  • Started hi carrer in the government when he was hired as a court recorder for the Cebu Audencia.
  • Sergio performed various administrative functions.
  • first entered the world of print media while he was studying at thye UST College of Law.
  • Spanish government awarded him the Medalla del Mento Civil.
  • Osmena went to Manila to cover the Filipino - American War for the Cebu newspaper.
  • Became a publisher of his newspaper - El Nuevo Dia.
  • Osmenia pratice his legal Profession when he came to Cebu to defend an ex-colonel charged with Sedition.
  • Acquired a legitimate government position when he was elected as one of the member, of the Cebu Municipal Council until 1903.
  • Became the temporary government of Cebu when governor Jose Climaco was sent to the Louis Exposition.

PRESIDENCY
  • Immediate tackled the many problems that beset the nation.
  • Priority Project: to restore the government's authority in areas that had already been liberated from the Japanese forces.
  • Serious challenged faced by Osmena's Administration: Filipino Collaborators who worked with the japanese during (and even after) the war.
